Art Matters: Teacher Professional Development Workshop Aboriginal Art and Education

Saturday 29 July, 9am–4.30pm

Cost $120 (please note numbers limited to 36)

The second in our series of 4 NAS professional development days this year, Visual Arts teachers will have the opportunity to engage with Amala Groom and Blak Douglas as they discuss their respective practices and ideas in relation to Aboriginal art and education.

This is an opportunity not only to engage with your peers in exploring the relationships between contemporary Aboriginal art and education to further inform classroom teaching practice but also develop your skills and knowledge in art making with two workshops. During the morning panel discussion,  Blak Douglas will discuss his emergence into art and some of his more notable accolades. Amala Groom will reflect on ‘Appropriation as a weapon to dismantle the Colonial Project‘. Teachers will be able to participate in both artmaking workshops facilitated by Blak Douglas and Amala Groom.

The Annual General Meeting of the Visual Arts and Design Educators Association will be held at
Trinity Grammar School, Terrace Room, First Floor ‘F’ Block, 119 Prospect Rd, Summer Hill, on Tuesday 20, June 2017 at 5:45pm.

Voting and Participation
Nominations for the VADEA Executive and Project Officer positions are now open. You can play an active role in shaping the future direction of VADEA. To share your passion and commitment to quality visual arts and design education you can:

  1. Nominate yourself, or a colleague for a VADEA Executive position.
    Nominations close 9 June at 10:00pm, or
  2. Volunteer for a Project Officer role at the AGM on 20 June at 5:45pm.
