The outcome of much global upheaval is that people tend to retreat into their comfortable, familiar and ‘safe’ places. This can take the mild form of nostalgia or strong Nationalism. I would suggest that current exhibitions addressing the Australian Landscape is wanting to offer us, the art going public, solace and a safe haven from the global challenges referred to in article one, Arts education can/should/does, “Foster the capacity to respond to major global challenges, from peace to sustainability”.
