Contemporary art isn’t about medium specific rules, advised the artist to the writer when
interviewed. Nithiyendran’s practice embodies the unconventional, layered,
meta-modern nuances of the contemporary artworld. His flamboyant, approachable,
generous nature as an artist informs his layered, exuberant, diverse approach to
artmaking. As seen in this photograph, the artist sits in his studio in front of his kilns amongst
a kaleidoscope of his work. The lines between artist and artwork are visually blurred – the
familial connections evident and where the artist is present in all the wildly expressive,
colourful, funny and imaginative forms he creates and embodies.
