VADEA Collaborate Live – Creating a Contemporary Cultural Artefact
Timm O’Regan Ceramic Artmaking Workshop
Tuesday 12th October from 4:30pm – 6:00pm via zoom
Timm O’Regan is a highly experienced ceramic artist who has developed a creative practice that pushes boundaries in construction and surface techniques to achieve visually dynamic and quirky contemporary cultural artefacts that represent his love of the form and his desire to enrich the creative practices of his students. Timm has also supported the talents of his students and has been an outstanding Visual Arts educator in his role as Head Teacher Visual Arts at Bowral High School. His students have been the lucky recipients of Timm’s extensive knowledge and achieved multiple selections for ARTEXPRESS.
“Colour, texture and surface have always been important in my work, recently I discovered the power of the printed form, both on paper and on a ceramic surface. The inclusion of found objects, links the real world to the imaginary world, a concept that grounds me to place, time and allows a connection. I construct the artwork around the object, the duality of found and made creating a symbiotic relationship. My works are narratives, stories that have no real beginnings or even endings, snippets of situations that have happened, conversations that I’ve walked into halfway through and walked back out again.” Timm O’Regan
VADEA are thrilled to partner with Timm in providing our members another FREE online artmaking workshop and an opportunity to build their own ceramic practice. Participants will create their own contemporary cultural artefact and gain an understanding of how Timm has scaffolded ceramic practice to support student skills and understanding with work samples of student works from Year 7 to Year 12. It is anticipated that participants will already have an understanding of basic ceramic construction techniques such as pinch-pot, slab and coil techniques.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Please click here for the list of materials you will require. Participants will need to have materials all set up prior to the start of the event and are asked to have a pinch-pot pre-prepared – it should be approximately 12cm high and 8cm wide. This workshop is being supported by S&S Wholesale, who have generously provided a reduced price material pack to support this event. Details of all this are in the materials list. Timm will also provide a Creating a Contemporary Cultural Artefact worksheet which will be emailed to registered participants just prior to the event.
VADEA would love a photo of your final artwork.
